The original from early Viking age (8 - 900 AD) is cast in lead
and found in the viking town of Kaupang near Larvik, in south
Norway. It is a model for making moulds in clay, probably for a
casting mount or jewelry. The pattern is made up of four crosses
put together in four different directions.
The find confirms that the production of jewelry
was taking place in Kaupang.
Copies are made as brooch and pendant in silver and bronze. The
original is slightly damaged, a tiny fraction is missing on one
side, this is shown on the copy (otherwise it would not have
been a replica!).
